Dear Members,
2020 is a challenging year for all of us and as a Chamber we are constantly looking at ways how we can be of any help to our members. One of the industries that is being badly affected by this pandemic is the hospitality industry and we truly feel your pain and we thought of ways how we can help the industry.
Since the government is encouraging domestic travel to boost local tourism, we thought a circular that lists all the on-going promotions by our members would help spread the word around and I’m glad we got positive feedback from our members when the first circular went out on June 25th and our plan was to run this initiative for 3 months.
We’ve actually reached our final circular today; we produced 7 circulars in total since June and I hope that you’ve found these circulars useful when planning your vacation or even dining out with your loved ones and friends. We’ve found our readership has been wide and constant since the first edition and I’m glad that this initiative has been a success.
If you have any suggestions that you think the Chamber should be exploring to further support this or other industry sectors, feel free to reach out to me at [email protected]
Thank you.
Siobhan Das
CEO
In Malaysia, tax has been the centre of an intense debate which has unfortunately divided the country along political lines. Whether it is GST or SST, the conversation should not be a political debate and the wellbeing of the country should take prime importance. With the big fiscal gap inherited since last year, how should Malaysia move forward?
On 29 September, AMCHAM’s CEO, Siobhan Das was invited to be a moderator during the 2nd panel at the 2nd Malaysia Tax Policy Forum at The Everly Putrajaya. The purpose of the forum was to gather innovative ideas and best practices from around the world.
Panelists were Amarjeet Singh, ASEAN and Malaysia Tax Leader & Business Tax Services Leader Ernst & Young Tax Consultants Sdn Bhd and Saravana Kumar Segaran, Partner, Tax, SST & Customs Practice, Rosli Dahlan Saravana Partnership. The subject for the 2nd panel was on how does Malaysia fare against its surrounding Asian neighbours in regards to its tax rates and public deliverables.

AMCHAM held an exclusive luncheon with YBhg. Dato’ Indera Khairul Dzaimee bin Daud, Director-General of Immigration Department of Malaysia and his team yesterday, 28 September 2020 at the Zenith Putrajaya Hotel. It was an engaging session where members had the opportunity to seek clarity and obtain further information directly from the Immigration Department on the movement of expatriates and Malaysians alike.
We truly appreciate the time we had with Dato’ Indera Khairul Dzaimee and his Directors, given the important nature of the Department’s work in making sure that our country is staying COVID-19 safe while staying open for business. We would also like to thank all our members and guests for making this event an overall success.
The Ministry of International Trade and Industry (MITI) is urging all companies in Malaysia that have registered their details on COVID-19 Intelligent Management System (CIMS) 3.0 to encourage their list of suppliers to register themselves on the system as well via https://notification.miti.gov.my/login as a form of commitment to adhere to the SOPs.
The registration will help the Government monitor business operations during the Recovery Movement Control Order (RMCO) and also the authorities are highly dependent on CIMS 3.0 to verify the movement status for companies operating in Targeted Enhanced Movement Control Order (TEMCO) areas.
The registration will also include an Akujanji Pematuhan (Commitment to Compliance) SOPs where companies are required to declare their commitment to adhere to the Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) by the Government.
If you have any questions, feel free to email the AMCHAM Team at [email protected]
Please click here for the Guidelines on How to Submit Company Declaration (via CIMS 3.0) by MITI.
