– ExxonMobil collaborates with government and local stakeholders to invest in programs that promote socio-economic benefits to the local community.
ExxonMobil has a long tradition of helping to improve the quality of life in the communities where we operate. In Malaysia, our support for the community focuses on four key areas: human capital development, energy literacy, safety and health, and business ethics.
In the area of human capital development, we collaborate with various partners to develop and increase awareness of Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM) subjects. Special emphasis is given to initiatives that help identify future STEM talents and to motivate young people to consider future careers in these fields which are critical for Malaysia in achieving its developmental goals. These include the ExxonMobil STEM Awards for students, STEM teacher training programs and others. Energy related topics are incorporated into the STEM programs that we support to encourage students to think about the role and efficient use of energy in daily life.
We also make significant contributions to enhance English language proficiency among school children and helped establish three English resource centers in Terengganu.
We sponsor an entrepreneurial skills development project with the Terengganu Royal Foundation which provides training to single mothers and girls from low-income families to fulfill their economic potential and lead social change in their communities.
In 2020, we supported the community in the fight against COVID-19. Through a partnership with the Malaysian Official Designers’ Association, we contributed full medical PPE for healthcare frontliners. We also provided the police with supplies as they enforced movement control orders to limit the spread of COVID-19 in the country.

FedEx / JA ITC
The FedEx / JA ITC provides the platform for students to gain first-hand experience of international trade and entrepreneurship, while cultivating a business mindset, comprising two key activities – the International Trade Workshops and the International Trade Challenge. As part of the challenge, students in teams of two develop a specific product or service and create an original international market entry strategy for a designated country. The program has been running successfully for 12 years in Malaysia since 2008, and today, is carried out across 9 Asia Pacific markets namely Hong Kong, Japan, Korea, Malaysia, the Philippines, Singapore, Thailand, Vietnam and Australia.
Young Enterprise
The YE Program is an initiative held in national schools, encouraging students to tap into the opportunity of experiencing a complete business cycle. They participate to gain practical know-how, right from registering their company, raising capital, selling shares, product ideation, manufacturing their own products, selling the products, financial reporting of the company and voluntarily liquidating the company. The main goal of the 9-month program is to help students hone their soft skills which are essential for entrepreneurs, such as communication, critical observation, conflict resolution and leadership through a series of workshops.
Both programs have impacted over 7,000 students to date.

– Building a better future
For years, Haskell has been profoundly committed to philanthropy, community, and giving back. Civic engagement is embedded in our culture and exemplified by passionate team members who serve as participants, leaders, and champions for acts of service. Haskell’s philanthropic leadership extends to corporate giving, where our efforts are a combination of financial and volunteer contributions – whether independently or in partnership with other organisations. Our giving centres on the relief of human suffering, with focus on the less fortunate and indigenous communities, and extends to other causes, including sustainability.
In Malaysia, Haskell has formed an alliance with ECOMY and Veritas for Project Kampungku (My Village). The coalition that started in 2018 has since been our annual commitment and focuses on the provision of a sustainable source of light energy for the indigenous villagers. In total, Haskell has served a total of 600+ hours on this initiative alone. In 2020, in line with the ongoing pandemic, our efforts have extended into delivering COVID-19 survival kits which includes hand sanitizers and face masks to our partnering associations including AMCHAM and InvestKL to help relief the burden of the pandemic.
Other efforts across our APAC offices include fundraising to deliver food supplies to communities severely affected by the pandemic. Haskell in Singapore and Philippines have hosted several fundraisers in 2020 alone to support our local communities. The Philippines team were also involved as volunteers during the Taal Volcano Eruption in Philippines. Together, Haskell raised over USD$3,500 within a week to support over 180 families affected by the eruption.
As a whole, Haskell is committed to giving back to our communities and will continue our efforts in our journey to build a better future.

Nutrition for Zero Hunger
As a global leader in nutrition, Herbalife Nutrition is helping to tackle the global challenges of hunger, food insecurity, and malnutrition. Through our Nutrition for Zero Hunger initiative, we provide critical resources and expertise to communities around the world. Collaborating with leading non-profit partners, we are committed to find the answers to this challenge.
Additionally, Herbalife Nutrition Foundation (HNF), a global non-profit foundation supported by Herbalife Nutrition’s independent distributors, employees, their families and friends, offer grants to charitable organizations under its Casa Herbalife Nutrition Program to provide children with the nourishment, care, and nutrition education they need to reach their full potential. Through HNF, Herbalife Nutrition Malaysia has supported five local non-governmental organizations since 2006 with contributions of more than USD500,000. Currently, we are proud to be working with four Casa Herbalife Nutrition partners – Amitabha Charity Orphanage in Johor; Good Samaritan Home and Pusat Jagaan Kanak-Kanak Yatim/ Miskin Rukaiyah in Selangor; and Yayasan Chow Kit in Kuala Lumpur to care for the nutrition needs of more than 190 children.
Last year, working with three of our Casa Herbalife Nutrition partners, we launched the STAR Program, a fun 12-week nutrition education program to encourage healthy, active lifestyle. Each child received a progress booklet that was divided into two categories: good nutrition and active lifestyle, and each category has a set number of activities the children can complete to collect star-shaped reward stamps.
Even after the Program ended, we received positive feedback from our partners and the children continued the habit of drinking enough water, exercising regularly, and avoided unhealthy food.
