Recently, the Malaysia Competition Commission (“MyCC”) released a Consultation Paper on the Proposed Amendments to the Competition Act 2010 (“Act 712”) inviting the public to share their feedbacks by 27 May 2022.
Among the main focus of the proposed amendments includes the insertion of merger control regime provisions into the Act 712. In ASEAN, Malaysia is the only country that does not have a merger control regime yet.

The Malaysian government and Cisco Systems Inc have unveiled a collaboration framework aimed at advancing Malaysia’s national digitization agenda.
The collaboration was formalised at an official ceremony in Washington between Cisco and MyDigital Corporation, coinciding with events around the US-Asean Special Summit hosted by U.S. President Joe Biden.
Texas Instruments (TI) on 18 May broke ground on its new 300-mm semiconductor wafer fabrication plants (fabs) in Sherman, Texas. Production from the first Sherman fab is expected in 2025. The fabs will complement TI’s existing 300-mm fabs, which include DMOS6, RFAB1 and the soon-to-be-completed RFAB2 which is expected to start production later this year.
Companies registered with MITI Safe@Work initiative and have an evaluation score of 70% and above are eligible for the one-off tax deduction of up to RM 50,000 on expenses incurred by the company on rental of a premise for the purpose of employees’ accommodation within the period from 1 January 2021 until 31 December 2022.
Other requirements:
(i) CIMS Safe@Work Letter; and
(ii) Company is incorporated under the Companies Act 2016; and
(iii) Manufacturing License or ICA 10 Certificate (for exemption from Manufacturing License); and
(iv) Certificate of Accommodation.
