In November of 2021, Oasis students took part in the “Service Starts Here” challenge. During this one-month event, students were tasked with finding sustainable solutions to issues that impacted their school community. They learned how to collect data, seek stakeholder input, evaluate ideas, and lead presentations.
Ninth graders focused on the school’s resource sustainability. After meeting with the finance department and facilities team, they identified two key areas in which simple solutions would lead to improved resource management: air conditioning use and paper waste. They presented their ideas to school leadership and advocated for change.
On 21 June, 2022, AMCHAM’s Human Capital Committee organized an insightful session on ‘Activating ESG & Sustainability Through People’. This program featured thought leaders from HSBC Bank and Korn Ferry.
Our Human Capital Committee Lead, Sugunah Verumandy, who is also the Head of Human Resource, HSBC Bank Malaysia Berhad shared a very inspiring video that she and other HR leaders were involved in on the topic of ESG and how they could bring a change into the workforce to incorporate the elements and knowledge of ESG at work.
We had the opportunity to hear from Prashant Chadha, Managing Director & Senior Client Partner, Consulting, Korn Ferry, who shared in detail the role people in the organization play in the development of ESG and sustainability as an integral part of corporate culture. Prashant also outlines the various levels of the transformation process and the pitfalls to note.

KUALA LUMPUR, 16 June 2022 – Malaysia’s premier purpose-built venue, the Kuala Lumpur Convention Centre (the Centre), has been voted as the Winner of EventseumTM Hall of Fame’s 2021 Global Innovation Award for Convention and Conference Centers for the region of Asia, at the recent IMEX in Frankfurt, Germany.
The Global Innovation Awards highlight specific innovation that differentiate one venue from another, while celebrating the venue’s overall commitment to innovation. The Centre is one of the four global winners, each representing key regions in the business events industry.
The Centre’s General Manager, Alan Pryor, said, “We are honoured to have won this inaugural award. This recognition strengthens our position as the perfect choice for international organisers and planners to host their major regional and global congresses, exhibitions and meetings. This award also further motivates to keep pushing the envelope as a venue and an important part of the infrastructure of our city that contributes to Kuala Lumpur and Malaysia’s 2030 and 2050 sustainability agenda.”
The Centre’s zero-energy rainwater harvesting systems leveraging the building’s architecture to harvest up to 60,000 gallons of rain water per year; its landmark partnership with URBANICE Malaysia, a Centre of Excellence for Sustainable Cities and Community Wellbeing; and its commitment to sustainability impressed the EventseumTM global judging panel.
This award comes on the heels of another global recognition that awarded the world-class venue the ‘Muslim-Friendly Convention & Exhibition Centre of Year’ by Halal in Travel Awards 2022, held in conjunction with the Halal in Travel – Global Summit 2022 in Singapore. Aimed at celebrating the travel industry players’ efforts towards the growth of halal travel, these awards span four categories and recognise destinations, organisations, companies and individuals who have made a considerable impact on the Muslim travel segment.
“As a leader in the global business events industry and Malaysia’s premier venue, we are inclusive, sensitive and conscientious of our stakeholders’ and guests’ needs and this award is a testament to our commitment to providing quality services to all,” concluded Pryor.
One of the country’s most iconic mosques, Masjid As-Syakirin (better known as KLCC Mosque), is within walking distance of the Centre, while the venue itself houses a number of prayer rooms. The Centre’s vast customisable spaces can also be transformed into prayer rooms and ablution areas based on event needs. All of its five kitchens are Halal-certified and over the years the Centre has been the venue-of-choice for many high-profile Islamic events such as the 9th Muslim World Biz and the meeting of the leaders of Islamic nations, the KL Summit 2019.
At the same awards, Malaysia was also named the ‘Top Muslim-Friendly Destination of the Year’ and YB Dato’ Sri Hajah Nancy Shukri, Minister of Tourism, Arts & Culture of Malaysia (MOTAC) delivered a keynote speech.
TF-AMD Microelectronics Sdn Bhd today announced plans to expand its manufacturing facility in Batu Kawan Industrial Park, Penang, with nearly RM2 billion of capital investment.
The new facility, spanning 1.5 million square feet and occupying approximately 5.67 hectares, will manufacture advanced integrated circuit technology and is expected to be completed in 2023.
TF-AMD corporate Vice President and Managing Director Neoh Soon Ee said that once completed, the facility will bring the company’s total manufacturing capacity to over 2.3 million sq ft.
