JLL has released its latest publication, “Warehouse Automation in Malaysia: Challenges faced by industry players”
While the benefits of industrial automation in Malaysia have been very apparent, the low adoption rate for automation in the logistics sector begs the need to investigate the potential hurdles and challenges faced by industry players.
Lately, Malaysia has been experiencing a spate of flooding due to heavy downpour. The floods has also caused many to be displaced. Thankfully, many companies are stepping forward to assist with relief efforts. One such company is Lam Research which in partnership with the Global Giving Foundation, funneled US$40,000 to several organizations including the Malaysian Red Crescent Society, Malaysia Relief Agency and Mercy Malaysia to aid in their flood relief efforts.
We thank Lam Research as well as these companies for their effort. They have definitely made a meaningful impact on their communities, especially in times of need. Keep it up!”

In the third week of May 2022, the public’s attention was once again roused over an alleged data leak involving the personal information of 22.5 million Malaysians of the age between 18 and 82 years. It was reported that such personal information was allegedly leaked from the database of the National Registration Department (“NRD”). The allegation, however, has been denied by the Home Minister, Datuk Seri Hamzah Zainuddin, who said that the dataset did not belong to the NRD. Local tech forums such as Amanz and Lowyat.Net reported that the 160 GB size of database is put on sale on the dark web for US$10,000.
Disappointed but not surprised – is probably the accurate public response towards the breach, considering that this is the second time that an alleged breach at the NRD has been reported when the same thing happened back in September last year involving the sale of personal details of 4 million Malaysians, stolen from NRD and the Inland Revenue Board.
Petaling Jaya, Malaysia, June 23, 2022 – GSK Malaysia is committed to its long-term ambition of delivering net zero emissions across all operations by 2030. By striving to reduce its environmental impact, GSK Malaysia announced the launch of its very own Environmental, Social and Governance (ESG) campaign called #GiveBack, focusing on safe and responsible disposal of old and used inhalers.
#GiveBack is held through collaborative working with over 50 outlets of Big Pharmacy across the Klang Valley and Seremban and will soon be extended to a nationwide campaign. During this pilot phase of the campaign, patients are encouraged to drop off their used, unwanted or expired inhalers at participating pharmacies to help reduce plastic waste and the adverse effects that the propellant has on the environment.
In a next phase of the campaign, GSK is looking into the feasibility of having the collected inhalers recycled into materials that can be repurposed, such as materials for local artists to create art installations. GSK Malaysia is keen on collaborating with many social enterprises that share similar ESG values.
Jonathan Pan, Vice President & GM of GSK Malaysia said, “The programme has already been conducted in the UK and will help pave the way for a more environmentally sustainable treatment of respiratory diseases in Malaysia. By 2030, we hope to create an impact that results in major savings in terms of material waste and carbon emissions.”
Kuala Lumpur, June 22, 2022 – In conjunction with World Environment Day, Herbalife Nutrition is making positive strides in its sustainability efforts with the Company’s first canister recycling programme in Malaysia, alongside the launch of its Asia Pacific ‘Simply Recycle’ initiative. This is part of Herbalife Nutrition’s regional initiative in its Asia Pacific markets, in line with its global goal of reaching 50 million positive impacts that nourish people and the planet by 2030.
As global temperatures rise and climate-related events occur more frequently than before, there is a growing need on consumers to make more sustainable choices. It is encouraging to see that according to Herbalife Nutrition’s Asia Pacific Nutrition Sustainability Survey 2022, 79% of Malaysian consumers surveyed believe that recyclable packaging materials are important while making nutrition-related decisions. In addition, 93% of Malaysian respondents believe a company’s recycling program will encourage them to support its environmental sustainability initiatives.
To expand its commitment to recycling and support the rising demand for accessible recycling facilities in the country, Herbalife Nutrition is rolling out a pilot project in Kuala Lumpur and plans to gradually introduce the program to the rest of Malaysia. The Company aims to do this while teaming up with Recycle for Life (RFL), an initiative by Cenviro Sdn Bhd, a Khazanah Nasional Berhad investee company under the sustainable pillar, to educate and promote recycling initiative to the community. RFL will be the official strategic partner for this programme. Starting from June 21, 2022, RFL will conduct monthly collection of empty Herbalife Nutrition canisters from Herbalife Nutrition headquarters in Malaysia at Plaza See Hoy Chan.
“Reflecting our commitment to nourishing a thriving planet, we strive to contributing positive environmental impacts in areas such as plant-based proteins and ingredients, forest restoration and circular economy,” said Mr. Steven Chin, Senior Director/General Manager, Herbalife Nutrition Malaysia and Singapore. “Through our partnership with RFL and the Simply Recycle initiative, we want to further strengthen efforts to reduce our environmental footprint. What’s more, 100% of the cash rewards collected from this programme will be donated to Herbalife Nutrition Foundation, enabling us to reach out to more of those in need in Malaysia.”
Dr. Johari Jalil, Managing Director, Cenviro Sdn Bhd, commented, “Protecting the environment by reducing the amount of waste in landfills is a key priority for us. One of the objectives of RFL is to support the Government’s initiative to encourage separation at source and to achieve the country’s recycling rate of 40% by 2025. Since our inception, our mission has been to achieve a circular economy and we do this in various ways, including working with key stakeholders to realise our goal. We are pleased to share that we have collected more than three million recycled items since 2017 and we are excited to continue this momentum by partnering with Herbalife Nutrition.”
Herbalife Nutrition has adopted a multi-layered strategy aimed at actively reducing the environmental impact of its packaging through key goals, including reducing plastic bag use from distribution centres worldwide, utilising 25% post-consumer resin (PCR) in its Formula 1 canisters globally over the next two years, and reducing packaging where possible while ensuring product quality and safety.
