On 12 March, AMCHAM organized a roundtable discussion with the International Organization for Migration (IOM) Malaysia and the U.S. Embassy to facilitate dialogue on ethical business conduct and responsible recruitment practices.

As IOM Malaysia develops its private sector engagement strategy, the session provided an opportunity to better understand how the organization can support U.S. businesses operating in Malaysia, particularly on issues related to business and human rights.

The roundtable also enabled members to share perspectives on challenges faced by U.S. companies producing in Malaysia when accessing global markets. Discussions covered topics including migrant worker rights, the impact of labor bans, emerging mandatory human rights due diligence regulations, and evolving international compliance requirements.

AMCHAM thanks Mattias Carlson, Program Coordinator at IOM Malaysia, and his team for taking the time to engage with our members.

On 10 March 2026, AMCHAM met with Malaysia’s new Minister of Investment, Trade and Industry (MITI), YB Datuk Seri Johari bin Abdul Ghani.

The discussion centered on the importance of SMEs in Malaysia’s business ecosystem and their role in sustaining investor confidence, supporting industrial development, and nurturing talent in an increasingly competitive global landscape.

AMCHAM expresses its appreciation to YB Datuk Seri Johari and the MITI team for the opportunity to exchange perspectives on strengthening Malaysia’s trade and investment outlook, and remains committed to working with MITI in support of Malaysia’s competitiveness and investment ecosystem.

AMCHAM was pleased to attend the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) signing ceremony between PERHEBAT, the Department of Veterans Affairs of the Malaysian Armed Forces (JHEV ATM), and the Social Security Organization (SOCSO) today at the PERHEBAT Complex in Sungai Buloh.

The ceremony, witnessed by YB Dato’ Seri Mohamed Khaled bin Nordin, Minister of Defence, and YB Dato’ Sri Ramanan Ramakrishnan, Minister of Human Resources, marks an important step in strengthening support for Malaysian Armed Forces veterans through enhanced job matching opportunities and social protection initiatives.

PERHEBAT plays a critical role in preparing retiring service members and veterans for civilian careers through its Transition Training programs, equipping them with skills that align with industry needs.

Through AMCHAM’s ongoing collaboration with PERHEBAT, the Chamber is pleased to support efforts to bridge the gap between industry and veteran talent, and to connect our member companies with trained and disciplined professionals who bring valuable leadership and operational experience to the workforce.

We look forward to continuing our engagement with PERHEBAT and partners in supporting meaningful career pathways for Malaysia’s veterans while strengthening industry access to skilled talent.

A US trade court judge on Wednesday ordered the government to begin paying potentially billions of dollars in refunds to importers who paid tariffs that the Supreme Court said last month were collected illegally.

Judge Richard Eaton of the US Court of International Trade in Manhattan ordered the government to finalize the cost of bringing millions of shipments into the US without assessing a tariff, according to a court filing. He ordered the refunds to be made with interest.
