The impact of Covid-19 has affected both the health of the public and the country’s economy. The government has undertaken proactive steps to curb the spread of the epidemic. The government is also tasked with the responsibility to help rebuild the economy. With that in mind, the government has decided to allow various economic sectors approved to operate during the Movement Control Period of phases 1, 2, and 3 to operate at full capacity without time limit and according to their respective industry requirements.

Now that China has come out of lockdown and both the U.S. and Europe appear to be heading towards the peak of Covid-19 infection, uncertain times surface once again. However, the long-term impact on global business and supply chains remain unknown. It is unclear exactly what might happen in the coming months.

Today, 28 April 2020, AMCHAM in collaboration with Control Risks had a webinar to shed some light on what the ‘recovery’ phase could be like. Speakers John Macpherson, Partner at Control Risks, and Allanna Rigby, Principal at Control Risks, provided insight on how companies can start planning their recovery, the first steps they can take right now and how to get back to business regardless of disruptions, as well as what to look out for. The ideas presented were very useful and practical.

Attendees gained an idea of the possible future amidst the uncertain times, and can begin to utilise available tools and strategies brought up by the speakers as the business enters the recovery road to a post Covid-19 world.

Some major electrical and electronics (E&E) companies in the country are losing millions as they are unable to operate at full capacity due to conflicting conditions imposed by various local councils. The International Trade and Industry Ministry (MITI) had instructed the factories to get approval from the respective local councils in order to continue operations round the clock.

While some local councils have allowed the factories, which were previously running round the clock, to continue their operations while their applications were being processed, some councils are requiring factories to only start operations once their applications have been approved.
