In the midst of the U.S.-China trade war, the American Malaysian Chamber of Commerce (AMCHAM) conducted an online survey of its members for a quick sentiment report. A total of 70 companies answered the survey. A majority of companies are concerned by the ongoing trade war.
The 2019 Economic Impact Survey captures the contribution from 37 American electrical & electronics businesses to the Malaysian economy encompassing FDI, job creation, knowledge transfer, and support for local SMEs.
AMCHAM has been conducting a series of Economic Impact Surveys in order to better quantify the overall positive impact of American investment in Malaysia beyond traditional FDI metrics. Given the specific business model of the insurance sector, we have devised this sector-specific questionnaire for our 5 insurance members that are fully or partially owned by American companies. This paper seeks to shed some light on the issue with talent in Malaysia and possible solutions.
The conditional Movement Control Order (MCO) will be extended for another four weeks until June 9, any changes to the rules, SOP or a list of sectors that are allowed to operate will be notified in a timely manner. Prohibition of inter-state movement will still be enforced during this period.
