HSBC Bank has appointed Omar Siddiq as its new Chief Executive Officer for Malaysia. He will succeed Stuart Milne, who will retire end of March 2022 after a distinguished 40-year career with the HSBC Group.
“Carrying on its strong heritage and track record in serving Malaysian clients, I look forward to working alongside the management team and also the Boards to build on the current momentum to fulfill its even greater potential,” said Omar on his appointment.
On the 12th of January, AMCHAM held its first Members’ Briefing of 2022 at the AMCHAM office. Participants were able to attend both in-person and virtually.
Siobhan Das, CEO, AMCHAM updated the members on upcoming initiatives from the Chamber and what to look forward to. Meanwhile, Michael Newbill, Deputy Chief of Mission of the U.S. Embassy in Kuala Lumpur attended the briefing again and updated us on developments from the U.S. side including efforts towards combating climate change, the components for the Indo-Pacific framework and the future of travel.
After the briefing, members that attended in-person were able to enjoy food and drinks while catching up.
07 January 2022, Gelang Patah –– Port of Tanjung Pelepas Sdn Bhd (PTP), a joint venture between Malaysian based MMC Group and Hague based APM Terminals created new milestone by becoming the first container terminal in Malaysia to surpass 11 million TEUs throughput volume in a year, further strengthened PTP’s position as one of the top 15 global ports.
The milestone was recorded on 25th December 2021 at approximately 10.00 am during the loading process at Maersk Amazon.
PTP subsequently registered a total volume of 11.2 million TEUs at end of 2021, representing an increase of 14% growth in its yearly volume as compared to 9.8 million TEUs in 2020.


Nasdaq listed Micron Technology, Inc. will be investing RM1 million to strengthen collaboration, research, and development projects with local universities over the next five years. Funding will go towards grants supporting research in the areas of semiconductor materials, smart manufacturing, and artificial intelligence.
