On 14 September, AMCHAM organized a Johor InterChamber Networking Event in partnership with the Malaysian-German Chamber of Commerce & Industry (MGCC), Malaysian Dutch Business Council (MDBC) and the Malaysia Australia Business Council (MABC). Held at DoubleTree by Hilton Johor Bahru, the occasion presented members from the four business chambers an opportunity to mix, mingle and make new connections all while enjoying great food and drinks.
“Bringing together people from different communities is not only fun but provides nuggets of opportunities for those attending” said Siobhan Das, CEO of AMCHAM, adding “it is great to be back in Johor again.”
Thank you to MGCC, MDBC, and MABC, for partnering with us to make this event a success. It was great to be able to reconnect and help us all build stronger ties learning how important these connections are when we can all help each other. Also, thank you to DoubleTree by Hilton Johor Bahru for supporting our event. We look forward to further engagements with you.
On 14 September, just before the Johor InterChamber Networking Event, AMCHAM hosted the meeting with the AMCHAM Johor Network (AJN) bringing together members that operate across the state of Johor. We had some new faces around the table joining the ‘old hands’ lead by AJN’s Chair, Fabien Er (Samtec).
Participants received an update on the Chamber activities and also everyone had a chance to relate how businesses were recovering and provide an outlook for the next few months.
Chamber members were encouraged to complete the MY AMCHAM CARES Survey and to save the date for the results at the upcoming AMCHAM’s signature Thanksgiving Luncheon on Tuesday, 21 November.
Companies in attendance included Samtec, Rapiscan Systems, Alcon, STMicroelectronics, Flextronics, and Standard Chartered.

It was a sun-kissed Saturday that brought together The International School of Kuala Lumpur (ISKL) community members at the annual Back to School Bash!

The campus became a buzzing hub of activities as children and adults dove into a medley of carnival games, including mini golf, tug of war, ring toss, and many more. Eruptions of laughter can be heard echoing as our community tested their strength in tug-of-war battles, tried their hand at dunking faculty and staff in the ever-popular Dunk Tank, and put their teamwork to the test while they tried to make it out of the escape room.
But the fun didn’t stop there! The grassy Zurich field featured a fun slip-n-slide that invited attendees to cool down and add a splash of fun to their day, leaving everyone with beaming smiles and soaked to the bone in the best possible way. Amid all the fun and games, food trucks around the grounds serve delectable bites, offering a gastronomic journey through various cuisines, satisfying every palate, and providing the much-needed fuel to keep the energy high and the spirits higher.

The Back to School Bash 2023 was more than an event; it was an experience that fostered community, unity, and, most importantly, joy. It encapsulated the vibrant spirit of ISKL, showcasing a community coming together to celebrate learning, friendship, and fun, offering a PAWEsome beginning to the new academic year.
Jabil Penang sponsored RM30,000 for the Penang STEM Showcase (Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics). This event which took place on the 25th & 26th of August encourages students to explore STEM studies and career opportunities in STEM-related fields.

On 11 September, AMCHAM team was back in Penang to meet members from the E&E industry for a Malaysian American Electronics Industry (MAEI) meeting. The meeting gave AMCHAM a chance to catch up with issues impacting the sector and have a discussion on the direction of the industry. Many prevailing issues, ranging across local, national and global spheres were touched on. AMCHAM was also able to provide an update directly on some of its current engagements and upcoming programs including the Penang Dialogue which will be held on 08 December.
A wholesome shoutout to our member Flex for hosting not only the meeting but treating us to an amazing lunch experience! We are coming back!
