On 16th June, AMCHAM had the privilege to welcome Elizabeth Urbanas, Deputy Assistant Secretary (DAS) Asia and the Americas at the Office of International Affairs in the U.S. Department of Energy for a roundtable discussion with AMCHAM members and key industry stakeholders. The engagement focused on U.S. energy priorities and opportunities for collaboration in Malaysia.

Drawing from her extensive experience, DAS Urbanas highlighted the value of ongoing engagement and cooperation in the energy sectors, especially crucial in today’s evolving global energy environment. The dialogue covered key bilateral interests in strengthening partnerships and addressing emerging challenges in the sector.

On 11th June, AMCHAM Johor Network (AJN) paid a courtesy visit to En. Najmie Noordin, Chief Talent Officer of Johor Corporation (JCorp) and Chairperson of Johor Skills (JSkills).

The Department of Environment of Malaysia (“DOE”) has published a Consultation Paper on its Proposed Amendments to the Environmental Quality Act 1974 (“EQA”) (“Consultation Paper”) on the Malaysian Government’s Unified Public Consultation (UPC) website. The consultation period is from 13 May 2025 to 16 June 2025.

According to the DOE, the purpose of the public consultation is to, among others, gather comments and suggestions from stakeholders, including the public on the purposes of the proposed amendments to the EQA to ensure that amendments made are inclusive, fair and effective.

On 22 May 2025, Plexus proudly celebrated the academic achievements of their teammates’ children, with a special focus on excellence in STEM subjects. In recognition of their results in the 2024 SPM examinations, each student was presented with a tablet during a dedicated award ceremony. The celebration brought together proud parents, colleagues, and leaders. As part of the experience, the students were also given a guided plant tour, offering them a behind-the-scenes look at the company’s technology and operations.

Victor Tan, Plexus APAC Regional President, shared that this initiative reflects Plexus’ core values and commitment to a future driven by innovation. “As a technology-driven company, our success hinges on innovation and progress, which are fueled by strong STEM skills. We need talented individuals in these fields to help us drive advancements and stay at the forefront of our industry.”

He added that Plexus has consistently demonstrated their dedication to developing STEM talent. In Fiscal Year 2024 alone, Plexus invested over RM222,000 to support more than 35 STEM programs that reached over 9,000 participants.

“We actively engage in STEM collaborations and sponsorships with the Penang State Government through initiatives such as mentorship programs, showcases, participation in science fairs, and STEM campus programs. Additionally, we proudly offer STEM education sponsorships to support aspiring young talents.”

“This event is specifically designed to celebrate the accomplishments of our teammates’ children who have excelled in their STEM education. Their dedication and support as parents have played a crucial role in their success, and we want to acknowledge that. Congratulations to each and every student achiever! A special congratulations to the recipients who scored straight As – a truly remarkable achievement! Their hard work and passion are truly commendable,” he said.
