In Malaysia, collection, processing, storage, transfer and retention of individuals’ personal data are governed under the Personal Data Protection Act 2010 (the “Act”). In short, the Act regulates the processing of personal data in commercial transactions in Malaysia.
In 2019, the Personal Data Protection Commissioner Malaysia (“PDPCM”) has undertaken the Act’s compliance inspections on business and commercial entities operating in Malaysia.
AMCHAM participated in an engagement session today with industry and business leaders, hosted by the Ministry of International Trade and Industry (MITI). YB Khairy Jamaludin, Minister of Science, Technology and Innovation gave a special and comprehensive briefing on the National COVID-19 Immunisation Programme.

Thailand, Bangkok, 4 March 2021 – Cleantech Solar and Tan Chong Subaru Automotive (Thailand) Co., Ltd (TCSAT) inaugurated a 1 MW system on the rooftops of TCSAT’s office building and assembly plant located in Lat Krabang Industrial Estate, near Bangkok’s Suvarnabhumi Airport. The installation includes over 3000 solar panels at TCSAT.
The project is expected to generate over 27 GWh of clean energy, avoiding 15,600 tonnes of carbon dioxide emissions across the agreement’s term of 20 years.
The Thai government has placed a high priority on alternative energy sources to power the auto industry. With the government’s ambition to place Thailand amongst the top car manufacturers in the world, the project will contribute to the country’s vision to be a leading sustainable auto hub of the future.
“TCSAT is one of the latest state-of-the-art car manufacturing facilities in Thailand. We manufacture and export cars for the region and are constantly looking for ways to reduce our carbon footprint. This partnership with Cleantech Solar allows us to employ the latest green energy technologies, reduce our cost of manufacturing and contribute towards a cleaner and greener environment. All this is also in line with the Thai government’s initiatives to encourage industry to move towards more sustainable ways of manufacturing.” said Mr. Jason Shang, President of TCSAT.

AMCHAM was delighted to have had our very first meeting with Brian McFeeters, the incoming U.S. Ambassador to Malaysia. Earlier this afternoon, the Ambassador who, having arrived on the weekend and is still undergoing quarantine, was able to meet with our Board of Governors and our CEO.
Representing U.S. multinationals in key sectors across Malaysia, these business leaders had the opportunity to provide brief introductions and to update on the Ambassador with the status of their industries providing him with a first hand snapshot and overview of the business environment in Malaysia.
AMCHAM looks forward to working closely with Ambassador McFeeters and to continue building on the strong collaborative relationship the Chamber already has with the U.S. Embassy. We hope that we will be able to meet with him face-to-face at some point in the coming months and he is also eager to meet with the membership at large. In the meantime we will continue to do the best we can to meet virtually.
The One Stop Centre (OSC) for Business Travellers, an initiative by the Malaysian Investment Development Authority (MIDA), Ministry of International Trade and Industry (MITI), Ministry of Health (MOH) and the Immigration Department of Malaysia (IMI) to ensure the legitimacy and health status of business travellers before they enter into Malaysia was launched this morning. This Center will expedite access for investors, technical experts, and other decision-makers. This is part of the Government’s initiatives to ensure investors keep Malaysia on their list of expansion sites and investments.
On 2 March, AMCHAM held a members-exclusive briefing session on this One Stop Centre and how companies can apply for entry permissions for both short-term/long-term business travellers. S. Siva, Executive Director, Investment Promotion, MIDA presented on the One Stop Centre, its functions and application processes for entry.
