Panel Discussion on Performance Management System

AMCHAM organized a HR panel discussion featuring Rahul Chawla, Practice Leader at AON Hewitt, Masliza Mansor, HR Director at First Solar Malaysia and Marcin Zabrzanski, HR Consultant at Motorola. The discussion led by Rahul Chawla was on the future of Performance Management Systems and how companies measure employee productivity.

Marcin mentioned that Motorola used to practice the traditional performance management system of the distribution curve, which was forced/guided and rigid. They have now moved to a more flexible system, whereby regular coaching and feedback are provided. This new methodology better suits the needs of the organisation and its demographics, especially so for the Generation Y (who do not like Performance Managements but like feedback).

First Solar’s appraisal system provides flexibility as well. Feedback is given on a quarterly basis and during these sessions, goals can be mutually reviewed. As the solar industry is very volatile, a flexible system suits their needs. Masliza also added that supervisors and staff are briefed on the process and assessment methods.
