Government to Present Draft Law on Legal Framework for Carbon Capture in November 2024
The Minister of Economy, Rafizi Ramli, announced recently that efforts are underway to introduce a comprehensive legal framework for the implementation of carbon capture, utilisation and storage (‘CCUS’) initiatives in Malaysia. In connection with this, a Memorandum has been tabled to the Malaysia Cabinet on 21 May 2024, which is intended to spearhead the preparation of such a framework.
The Minister of Economy has indicated that the Ministry of Economy is expected to table the proposed Bill on the CCUS framework in Parliament during its meeting in November 2024. Prior to this, there will be a presentation to the Malaysia Cabinet on the CCUS framework.
