VISA UPDATE (06 Jan 2021)- Social Visa Pass Holders (90-days)

06 Jan 2021 UPDATE
Please be advised of this update for those in Malaysia on a SOCIAL VISA PASS (90-days)

With the extension of RMCO to 31 March 2021, we have been advised that persons on an expired social visa pass will be allowed to remain in Malaysia without penalty, until this date. However, at the end of the RMCO, they will be afforded 14 days to leave the country if their status has not been changed.

Anyone who is unsure of their status should check their status by contacting Malaysian Immigration for options to renew, or exit Malaysia.

This notice below was listed on the U.S. Embassy website on 04 January 2021 http://my.usembassy.gov/health-alert-covid19-010421/

“Recovery/Conditional/Enhanced Movement Control Orders

On January 1, 2021, the Government of Malaysia extended the Recovery Movement Control Order (RMCO) through March 31, 2021.

(Updated) The Malaysian authorities have updated the U.S. Embassy that foreign nationals with expired social visit pass currently in Malaysia may leave Malaysia within 14 working days after the end of the RMCO without having to apply or obtain prior approval or any special extension pass. This guidance replaces the previous guidance received from the Malaysian authorities on December 31, 2020, which stated that holders of expired social visit passes must obtain a special pass to remain in or depart Malaysia as of January 1, 2021.

Please contact Malaysian Immigration directly, through their Online Inquiry System at http://eapp.imi.gov.my/tanya/create or through the Malaysian Government call center (MyCGG) at 03-8000-8000, with any further questions.”
