The final members’ briefing for the year of 2017 was held at Grand Millennium Hotel Kuala Lumpur on November 28th. Present at the briefing was Dean Thompson, Deputy Chief of Mission from the U.S. Embassy Kuala Lumpur, AMCHAM Board of Governors and approximately 40 members in attendance.
Siobhan Das, Executive Director of AMCHAM started off the evening with her welcome remarks. During her speech, she provided the members with an update on what the chamber has been working on over the last few months. She also highlighted the great line-up of events that AMCHAM has in store for next year, in particular, the APCAC Business Summit which will take place on 4-5th April 2018.
Following that, Dean Thompson provided an overview of the current business and economic issues impacting business in Malaysia as well as recent visits and activity at the US Embassy. Dean also shared the importance of the U.S Embassy’s commitment to work closely together with AMCHAM and its members in order to create a greater Malaysian environment for the year of 2018.
AMCHAM partnered with MDBC for a pre-Christmas networking session at The Tavern located within the Heineken Brewery on 6 December 2017. The event started off with a brewery tour followed by a brief speech from Marco Winter, Executive Director of MDBC, and a tasty dinner buffet thereafter. Beers, ales and ciders from the Heineken’s portfolio of brands were flowing freely as more than 100+ members of the American, Dutch and Malaysian business communities took this opportunity to expand their networks in a relaxed environment. AMCHAM would like to wish everyone a Merry Xmas and Happy New Year in advance and we hope to see you in more AMCHAM programs in the new year!
As part of our ongoing initiative to introduce a greater variety of smaller-scale cultural interest events into our program, AMCHAM was delighted to host a lunch with legendary tennis coach Nick Bollettieri at Damansara City Mall on 6th December. Following a delicious set lunch at Tifin by Kumar’s Restaurant, Nick shared with our members his reflections on his long and successful career. Starting as a tennis coach in 1956, charging a humble three dollars per hour, Nick’s self-belief and determination drove him to prove his critics wrong and go on to develop ten world number ones in the sport. He emphasized how, in all fields, you need to think big, aim high, and not be disheartened by initial failures if you are going to realize your ambitions. We look forward to welcoming a range of special guest speakers in 2018!
The year is rapidly winding down and we are already starting to focus on the year ahead. At AMCHAM we are looking forward to a busy and exciting year filled new and familiar activities. Our big feature is APCAC 2018 on April 4-5. The Summit will look at U.S. businesses as they face the challenges of what is being termed ‘The Asian Century’. We welcome your participation, in shaping the conversation as well as any sponsorship so that we can deliver a ‘relevant’ conference. Please find out how you can get involved by dropping me an email at [email protected]
I would like to take this opportunity to thank each and every one of you for your continuous support either as a sponsor, your personal involvement in all the working groups that we organized this year, being a speaker/ panelist at our events and most importantly attending the events that we’ve put up this year. A lot of work and effort goes into planning and organizing an event and we truly appreciate you taking time off your busy schedule to attend those events which drive us to do more for the benefit of our members.
Please do look out for our Membership Satisfaction Survey that will be reaching you soon. I would appreciate if you could take 10 minutes to complete the survey to help us understand our membership better. Surveys may be time consuming but your say matters to us and we want to make sure we are serving your needs at the same time maximising your membership.
We look forward to an even more busier year in 2018 and to be your go-to Chamber.
