Malaysia’s COVID-19 Bill: Potential Implications for Business

As part of an effort to address and cushion the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic, the Malaysian Government introduced the Temporary Measures for Reducing the Impact of Coronavirus Disease 2019 (COVID-19) Bill 2020 to provide help to both businesses and individuals alike.  The Bill has passed a third reading at the Dewan Rakyat.

On 3 September 2020, AMCHAM had three legal experts over for an in-depth discussion on the Bill. Ee Von Teo , Partner – Corporate, Commercial & Securities Practice Group at Wong & Partners provided an overview of the Bill and facilitated the panel discussion with Sharon Chong, Partner – Dispute Resolution at Skrine and Edward Kuruvilla, Senior Associate – Dispute Resolution at Christopher Lee Ong. The panel discussion helped to clarify what certain sections in the Bill meant and what their implications and limits are. They also helped to bring clarity on mediation and settling disputes.
