ISKL High School Principal Receives Principal of the Year Award

MALAYSIA, April 27 2021: The International School of Kuala Lumpur (ISKL) is delighted to announce that its High School Principal, Jeff Farrington, has been selected as a recipient of the U.S.-based National Association for Secondary School Principals (NASSP) Principal of the Year for 2021. The award is sponsored by the NASSP, in affiliation with the U.S. Department of State Office of Overseas Schools and honors secondary school principals who have succeeded in providing high-quality learning opportunities for students as well as demonstrating exemplary contributions to the profession.

ISKL’s Head of School, Rami Madani said, “This is a wonderful honor for both Jeff and ISKL and we are proud and delighted that his leadership, professionalism, and commitment to excellent education have been recognized. Jeff is an outstanding educator, an inspiring leader, and role model who has played a key role in ensuring ISKL is at the cutting edge of curriculum development. He has made a significant contribution to our school and to students and educators globally.”

US Ambassador to Malaysia Brian D. McFeeters, whose two children attended ISKL during his last posting to Malaysia, shared his congratulations, “This award is very prestigious and recognizes Jeff as one of the world’s best educators, in one of the world’s best schools – ISKL. We are grateful for the energy and devotion he has given to the children and ISKL community. Knowing that educators like Jeff are engaged in shaping our children’s lives makes Kuala Lumpur a wonderful place to live and work.”

As a passionate advocate for ensuring all students have access to learning that meets their needs and post-secondary aspirations, Mr. Farrington has been instrumental in introducing two new future-ready study options that augment ISKL’s High School curriculum. In addition to the International Baccalaureate Diploma Programme, ISKL’s innovative PRAXIS 2030 and Pursuits Program offer greater student flexibility and choice in their learning. Mr Farrington has also implemented a wide range of inclusive practices to ensure the learning needs of all students are served, including those with intensive needs.

The NASSP National Principal of the Year (POY) program convenes the year’s top principal from each of the 50 states, the District of Columbia, the Department of Defense Education Activity, and the U.S. Department of State Office of Overseas Schools to be honored at a four-day institute in Washington, D.C., September 17–22, 2021.

Mr Farrington joined ISKL in 2014 and has more than 20 years experience in leading instruction, assessment, and teacher supervision including positions as Middle School Principal and Director of Learning. He has been a trainer for the Principals’ Training Center and holds a Master’s degree in International Education, a Bachelor of Education degree, and a Bachelor of Science degree.
