[Member Exclusive] Briefing: New Workers’ Minimum Standards of Housing

Earlier this year, the Malaysian government introduced new requirements in minimum housing standards for workers under the Workers’ Minimum Standards of Housing, Accommodation and Amenities Act 1990, effective 1 June 2020.

Requirements are now set out for the provision of basic amenities such as beds and mattresses according to prescribed minimum sizes, individual lockable cupboards, as well as a minimum floor space for bedrooms and sleeping areas.

These new parameters are intended to ensure that accommodation for workers are conducive for their welfare, occupational safety and health, and in light of the COVID-19 pandemic, to curb the spread of infectious diseases.

To help our members better understand these new standards, we will be hosting an exclusive in-depth briefing session conducted by the Labour Department, followed by a Q&A session to provide further clarity to any questions you may have.
