IPEF Business Forum

AMCHAM will be hosting IPEF Business Forum, in conjunction with the negotiations in Kuala Lumpur this October. This forum aims to provide participants with a better understanding of how values-based trade can further strengthen economic supply chains from industry experts and policy makers from across the region.

In May 2022, the U.S. President announced the launch of the Indo-Pacific Economic Framework for Prosperity (IPEF) with over 40% of the world’s GDP represented in the 14 founding members: Australia, Brunei, Fiji, India, Indonesia, Japan, Malaysia, New Zealand, Philippines, Singapore, South Korea, Thailand, United States and Vietnam.

Since then, discussions have centered on four (4) pillars, namely: (1) Trade; (2) Supply Chains; (3) Clean Energy, Decarbonization, and Infrastructure; and (4) Tax and Anti-Corruption. Text for Pillar 2 ​has already been released and this round in Kuala Lumpur hopes to bring the other pillars to closure in preparation for announcements at APEC in San Francisco in November.
