Elevate Performance through Leading Mindset Change

September 22, 2016 @ 9:00 am - 10:30 am

AMCHAM recently featured Professor Terry Warner, founder of The Arbinger Institute, a management consulting firm and scholarly consortium that specializes in peacemaking for various organizations, families, and individuals.

Departing from our usual business related programs, this event gave members the opportunity to look at themselves as leaders and the environments they work and play in from a slightly different perspective. Mindset change, Professor Warner explained often needs to start by reflecting on our own responses to various circumstances and, noting if we are responding ‘authentically ‘ or, only in a manner that is expected to even if that response goes against our instincts. Acting closer to our instincts, ‘authentically’ can often shift attitudes and mindsets. This can be applied to all environments including the workplace.

He went on to encourage us to better understand our peers and why they may behave in a certain manner. If your colleague is angry or moody for example, instead of reacting negatively at the person, try to understand why he or she is behaving that way and deal with the situation with a positive mindset. Seeing each other as people and not objects will ensure smooth running of a task delegated to them. “Understand that each and everyone of us has their own story, their own world”, said Professor Warner.
Professor Warner stressed that the key to changing ourselves is by allowing ourselves to be open. If we’re not opened to making changes within, nothing will change.

Professor Warner also shared with some real life corporate stories which left members something to ponder upon.

AMCHAM would like to thank Professor Warner for his time to meet our members and to share his valuable experience and success stories. Thank you to our members for their participation.
