Duty of Care for Global Mobility

Duty of Care for international assignees is not new. Traditionally there has been a focus on international medical assistance
in emergencies and implementing security measures in hardship or high-risk locations.

But two major shifts have recently occurred: the uncertain future of security stability in less remote and high-risk locations, and the increasing use of Do it Yourself (DIY) options among employees in most companies.

Experienced Mobility professionals can easily recall global events that have helped companies gain a deeper understanding of Duty of Care for assignees and business travelers – from Japan’s tsunami disaster in 2011, to more recent terrorist activities in Europe.

These experiences, combined with the popularity of DIY options (especially around travel planning) and improved technology (knowing where employees are at any given time), creates an even stronger need for Duty of Care.
