Catching or Missing the Boat? – Malaysia’s Role in the Global Value Chain, COVID-19 and Trade Uncertainties

With deepening trade tensions and the COVID-19 pandemic, the future of businesses becomes difficult to gauge in the uncertain times. On 23 June 2020, AMCHAM partnered with HSBC and MIDA to address the current trade uncertainties and its implications on investments in Malaysia.

On this topical webinar, Stuart Milne, CEO, HSBC Malaysia, provided the opening remarks and an overview of the current landscape. Sivasuriyamoorthy Sundara Raja, Executive Director, Investment Promotion, MIDA, provided an overview of incoming investment initiatives into Malaysia. Joining them was an ensemble of panelists bringing insights and thoughts on the regional trade environment, how the trade uncertainties have impacted global value chains in the region, and this bodes for Malaysia. The discussion also touched on what the possible near future will be, identifying technologies and processes will become vital in the coming months.
