In continuation of our focus on CSR efforts and in giving back to the community, we adapted and remained agile to the new norm, we focused on what was needed the most during unprecedented times, looking for ways to support our communities.
Through the Amex Foundation, a donation of US$ 100,000 (approximately RM426,450) was made to MERCY Malaysia to help mitigate the impact of COVID-19 within marginalized communities of Malaysia. The funds are used to purchase and distribute essentials such as food items, non-food items, hygiene and cleaning kits to cushion the negative impact of the pandemic on the lives of those in need. The outreach is targeted at:
• B40 population at PPRs (Program Perumahan Rakyat) and urban areas
• B40 population in rural areas
• Refugees and stateless communities in urban and rural areas
• People with disabilities
• Orang Asli communities in rural areas
Thanking our HealthCare Heroes – By showing our gratitude and support towards our frontlines, our colleagues wrote hundreds of thank you notes and uplifting messages that were compiled into a photobook, along with chocolates. These were presented to the staff of two hospitals that were key for COVID-19 treatments in Kuala Lumpur and Selangor. Backing the communities in which we live and work is an essential part of our brand promise. One way we bring this to life is through Give2Gether, our annual giving campaign. Give2Gether is a platform where our Amex colleagues can choose from among thousands of projects submitted to the GlobalGiving platform by vetted nonprofits in more than 170 countries, including but not limited to causes such as animal welfare, education, COVID-19 relief, etc. Contributions will then be matched dollar for dollar by the American Express Foundation.
Our backing extends beyond our customers to the communities where we live and work. We believe that it’s good for both our business and our communities to invest financial and human resources in ways that address the social, environmental and economic needs of our communities, customers, shareholders and partners, especially during these trying times.
