AMCHAM’s 43rd Annual General Meeting

AMCHAM held its 43rd Annual General Meeting on August 13, 2020 at the Hilton Kuala Lumpur. A first for AMCHAM, this event was also livestreamed to an online audience. AMCHAM is pleased to report the addition of a new member to the Board of Governors, Naeem Shahab Khan, Managing Director, Philip Morris Malaysia, alongside four Governors who are returning. These Governors will serve on the AMCHAM Board for a two year term, until 2022.

Upon conclusion of the AGM meeting, AMCHAM welcomed back the U.S. Ambassador Kamala Shirin Lakhdhir and introduced the new Deputy Chief of Mission, Michael Newbill to all members that were present.

The Ambassador took a moment to congratulate and thank AMCHAM for all its efforts throughout the year. Also highlighted was the great working relationship that the Chamber has with the Ministry of International Trade & Industry (MITI Malaysia) and other government bodies during the initial stages of the successive MCOs, noting how it became a lifeline for many companies, especially those supporting and supplying to essential healthcare industries.

The Ambassador also reminded us of the many similarities between both countries and that working together can help us all prepare better in the face of these difficult times.

After a light lunch with AMCHAM’s Chair Ramzi Toubassy, Treasurer, Anushia Soosaipillai, and CEO, Siobhan Das, Ambassador Lakhdhir welcomed inputs from members and looked forward to hearing in more details the pressing issues facing our members.
