AMCHAM Dialogue with MITI Minister, Dato’ Sri Mustapa Mohamed, Minister of International Trade & Industry

Sixty members joined AMCHAM for a substantive dialogue with Dato’ Sri Mustapa Mohamed, Minister of International Trade and Industry (MITI) on Friday, January 13, 2017.  The Chamber presented key messages from the American business community to MITI and its agencies MIDA, MATRADE and INVESTKL.

The American business community, which has long enjoyed a strong working relationship with MITI and its agencies, appreciates the ongoing support rendered by MITI’s leadership and officers. This opportunity to openly discuss issues was exceptionally timely as AMCHAM was able to raise the concerns emanating from recent policy changes and implementation hurdles that have been rippling through the business community in Malaysia. As always, the dialogue was characterized by a high degree of openness and candor by the participants.

To prepare for the dialogue session, AMCHAM solicited feedback from our members. The following five key issues surfaced as the most crucial and propelled the discussion:

  1. Foreign Exchange Administration Policy
  2. Withholding Tax, Finance Bill 2016
  3. Goods and Services Tax
  4. Market Access and Government Procurement
  5. Intellectual Property

AMCHAM will continue to engage the membership on their key concerns in their respective sectors and keep members abreast of further developments; We would like to encourage members to become more active by sharing experiences within your industry on what is working and what can be improved.

AMCHAM requests that Members write in to inform the Chamber of their issues and how they impact your business by sending an email directly to [email protected] . Please ensure you provide us with a point of contact so that the Chamber can follow up on these issues.
