3M Malaysia and MIROS Partnership to Improve Road Safety in ASEAN

KUALA LUMPUR, 15 SEPTEMBER 2017 – The Honourable Minister of Transport Malaysia witnessed the signing ceremony of the Memorandum of Understanding between MIROS and 3M Malaysia Sdn Bhd (3M Malaysia) at Wisma MCA this afternoon. The signing commemorates the strengthening of a working relationship of cooperation and collaboration between both parties in road safety.

The appointment of MIROS as the ASEAN Road Safety Research Centre in 2014 demonstrates the recognition by the ASEAN Ministers of Transport of MIROS’s role in promoting road safety in Malaysia as well as in the ASEAN region. Therefore, 3M Malaysia is proud to support MIROS in achieving its goals for improving road safety in Malaysia and in the ASEAN region since road safety is the responsibility of both governments and citizens. As such, there is a need to continuously encourage individuals and organizations in the region to work together towards achieving a higher level of road safety. The cooperation between 3M Malaysia and MIROS is symbiotic in an effort to promote road safety in the region.

Dato’ Sri Liow Tiong Lai expressed his appreciation towards 3M Malaysia’s support in bringing down the death toll due to road crash not only in Malaysia but also in ASEAN. This effort will help us to achieve our global goal in stabilizing and reducing global road fatalities as aspired in Decade of Action for Road Safety 2011-2020 since 90% of road death occurred in low and middle income countries. “Therefore, I would like to call other organizations to join our effort to make this world safer and improve our quality of life”, add Minister of Transport.

“3M has more than 75 years of expertise in road safety and with our expertise and vast global experience in the Traffic Safety industry, 3M is able to work together with MIROS to improve road safety standards not only in Malaysia, but also throughout the ASEAN countries. This initiative is another testament to 3M’s commitment to our vision of 3M innovation improving every life. The Ministry of Transport launched the Malaysia Road Safety Plan 2014 – 2020 in November 2014 to improve road safety in Malaysia. The target is to reduce the mortality index to 2.0 in 2020 (2 out of 100,000) with the cooperation of various government and private agencies. We are excited for this partnership with MIROS and we look forward to achieving great things with MIROS through this partnership”, said Mr Parameswaran Nair, Managing Director of 3M Malaysia.
