Keysight Strengthens European-Asian Cooperation for 6G Research
6G-SANDBOX project led by Keysight signs strategic research agreement with Universiti Malaya
Under the project leadership of Keysight, the Horizon Europe-funded 6G-SANDBOX project signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with Universiti Malaya to advance innovation in the field of 6G networks. This is the second major MoU that 6G SANDBOX has signed with an Asian organization to promote global cooperation for 6G research.
“Our partnership with Universiti Malaya not only enhances the research we are conducting for 6G networks, but also strengthens the collaboration between Europe and Asia for the next generation of wireless communications,” said Keysight’s Michael Dieudonné, 6G-SANDBOX coordinator. “Looking ahead, we plan to continue extending invitations to other Asian universities and companies to further build a global 6G ecosystem.”
The collaboration with Universiti Malaya will be focused on integrating technologies, applications, and experimental networks from the university onto the 6G-SANDBOX testbeds, enabling joint 6G networks research, trials, and demonstrations.
“Universiti Malaya has been at the forefront of telecommunications research, with numerous programs focused on advancing wireless communication technology,” said Prof. Ir. Dr. Kaharudin Bin Dimyati, Deputy Vice Chancellor, Research & Innovation, Universiti Malaya. “Our partnership with 6G-SANDBOX will provide our researchers with a unique opportunity to contribute to the development of 6G networks and it will be exciting to see the innovations that will emerge from this collaboration.”
Keysight General Manager of Wireless Conformance Muthu Kumaran agrees that the project holds great promise for the advancement of 6G. “It will be interesting to see the progress that will be made through this agreement and how it will be applied to 6G technology globally,” he said. “By supporting the university and 6G SANDBOX with our measurement expertise and resources, Keysight is directly contributing to the development of 6G networks.”
6G-SANDBOX was launched in January 2023 by Keysight in collaboration with 16 partners to create a pan-European testbed for 6G experimentation. The project will combine digital and physical nodes to deliver fully configurable, manageable, and controllable end-to-end networks for validating new technologies and research advancements for 6G. In addition, 6G-SANBOX will enable entities across the European Union (EU) to test promising technical 6G enablers, including network automation, cybersecurity, digital twins, and artificial intelligence (AI), as well as technologies that streamline energy consumption.
6G-SANDBOX project has received funding from the Smart Networks and Services Joint Undertaking (SNS JU) under the European Union’s Horizon Europe research and innovation program under Grant Agreement No 101096328.
