APEC 2023: To Create a Resilient and Sustainable Future for All
AMCHAM was thrilled to be able to host an in-depth discussion with Matt Murray, U.S. Department of State Senior Official for APEC – Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation to discuss the U.S. policy priorities for its APEC host year in 2023 and to do so alongside Vimala Murugan, Ministry of International Trade and Industry, Malaysia, Senior Official for APEC.
Both recently arrived from Honolulu and the informal SOM meetings, they were able to share details around the theme for the U.S. host year Creating a Resilient and Sustainable Future for All and the following priority areas:
- Interconnected: building a resilient and interconnected region that advances broad-based economic prosperity;
- Innovative: enabling an innovative environment for a sustainable future; and
- Inclusive: affirming an equitable and inclusive future for all.
More significantly, although APEC is non-binding, the discussion from industry revolved around finding pathways to be impactful in key areas like sustainability, health, and inclusivity – how to work with industry to drive resilience not only in supply chains but deepen interwoven networks across the APEC economies.
Joining the discussions were representatives from AMCHAM member companies, government agencies and foreign missions. We were delighted that Pam Dunn New Zealand’s Ambassador to Malaysia was able to join us too, along with reps from Philippines and Singapore.
