[VIRTUAL] The Real Challenge Begins Now

With Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim appointed as Malaysia’s 10th Prime Minister and the reveal of a slimmer cabinet, what would the challenges be for the new government and what can we expect in 2023?

To shed some light on this, we had a post-election briefing titled “The Real Challenge Begins Now” featuring Dr. Ong Kian Ming, Former Deputy Minister of International Trade & Industry and Pankaj Kumar, Managing Director, Datametrics Research and Information Centre Sdn Bhd (DARE), moderated by Shazwan Mustafa Kamal, Associate Director of Vriens & Partners.

Dr. Ong Kian Ming covered the possible political reforms that could occur with the unity government and what some of the key challenges are. Pankaj Kumar provided an economic outlook for Malaysia given the current political landscape along with projections of what 2023 could bring. He also dove into the key areas that the unity government will have to tackle in the coming year and what they could do to address issues such as unemployment rates, wages, cost of living, attracting FDI and more.

Attendees were able to raise questions regarding the future of Malaysia with the new government in place and what to note within the coming year. Special thanks to our speakers for an insightful session.
