SUMMARY:2018 APCAC Business Summit
DESCRIPTION:“Charting a Bold Future: US Businesses in the Asian Century” is the theme for the 2018 APCAC Business Summit to be held in Kuala Lumpur\, Malaysia on Wednesday and Thursday\, April 4-5\, 2018. \nThis high-profile annual summit attracts over 300 participants including senior government and private sector leaders from the USA and the Asia-Pacific region. Dato’ Sri Haji Mohammad Najib bin Tun Haji Abdul Razak\, the Prime Minister of Malaysia is invited to open the conference and we also anticipate the involvement of several U.S. Ambassadors\, state governors\, city mayors\, and senior U.S. Administration officials. \nThe 2018 Asia-Pacific Council of American Chambers of Commerce (APCAC) event will be hosted by AMCHAM Malaysia. \nWhy Malaysia\, and why now?\nWith the current U.S. administration’s focus and messaging about prioritizing American interests\, a retrenchment from overseas engagement is predicted. For those of us based in Asia\, we have seen these shifts result in increased questions about the commitment by U.S. business to these markets. Will U.S. companies continue to invest in: \n● Local talent?\n● Localizing their products and services?\n● Engaging in ways to develop and grow local economies?\n● Social responsibility initiatives? \nAt APCAC\, we know the answer is a resounding ‘YES.’ \nAt our upcoming Summit\, we will be providing participating sponsors and companies a showcase to demonstrate their continued engagement and commitment on a range of important topics\, all while highlighting the dynamism and value of American business. \nMalaysia\, a founding member of both ASEAN and the Trans-Pacific Partnership\, is geographically positioned between the emerging regional powerhouses of China and India and sits at the nexus of these shifting economic ties. In this context\, now is the right time and Malaysia is the ideal place to host what we believe will be a seminal platform to emphasize the longevity and nature of U.S. investments in the region\, highlight the relevance of our corporate values\, and promote the ongoing committed engagement of our partner companies.\n \nWhat is APCAC? \nAPCAC is an association of 29 American Chambers of Commerce from 22 economies in Asia-Pacific. APCAC comprises of 15\,000 Member companies\, 50\,000 overseas American executives and 10 million employees; the region has USD 620 billion in annual FDI management and more than USD 1 trillion in annual trade. The APCAC Business Summit is hosted each spring by one of APCAC’s member associations and we are delighted to have been chosen to bring the Summit to Kuala Lumpur in 2018. American corporations find value in this association with a number of them supporting APCAC by being part of the Chairman’s Circle: VISA\, Abbott\, GE\, Citibank\, PayPal Caterpillar\, UPS\, amongst others.\n \nFor additional information\, please do not hesitate to contact AMCHAM Malaysia directly: \nMs Siobhan Das\, Executive Director apcac@amcham.com.my

SUMMARY:Energy Outlook - A View to 2040
DESCRIPTION:You are invited to join AMCHAM as Lynne D Taschner\, Energy Advisor\, Exxon Mobil Corporation\, Dallas\, U.S.A. presents the ExxonMobil Energy Outlook: A View to 2040 on Wednesday\, March 14 from 12.00 p.m. to 2.30 p.m. at The Ritz Carlton Kuala Lumpur. Ms. Taschner\, who is based in Dallas\, is a principal contributor to ExxonMobil’s long-term global energy outlook\, including the identification of potential implications for energy markets and the corporation’s strategic plans. \nThe Outlook for Energy is ExxonMobil’s global view of energy demand and supply through 2040. It also highlights the dual challenge of ensuring the world has access to affordable and reliable energy supplies to support prosperity while reducing environmental impacts – including the risks of climate change. We share the Outlook with the public to help promote a better understanding of the issues shaping the world’s energy needs. \nMany uncertainties exist concerning the future of energy demand and supply\, including potential actions that societies may take to address the risks of climate change. DESCRIPTION:Join us on Tuesday\, Feb 6 from 9.30 a.m. – 11.30 a.m. at the AMCHAM Executive Office for a spotlight session brought to you by Haskell. \nThis program is recommended for Operations\, Engineers\, Technical Services and Maintenance professional\, to identify and troubleshoot issues with an existing operation in the Food & Beverage\, Dairy\, Pharma and Biotech industry. \nSeiberling\, a Haskell Company\, is an Engineering and Technical Consulting Company providing process\, clean in place (CIP) and steam in place (SIP) design and automation services to the Food\, Dairy\, Pharmaceutical and Biotech industries. Seiberling Associates\, Inc. was founded in 1976 and has built long-term relationships with clients by developing innovative\, automated and cost-effective hygienic engineering solutions. \nClean in place (CIP) technology has great benefits when applied correctly for sanitary industries\, such as food and pharmaceutical manufacturing. If implemented poorly\, it can create day-to-dayheadaches\, or worse recalled product. We will review a case study of an existing installation which was modified by the plant with subsequent poor product quality because of improper execution. \nSteam in place (SIP) technology is the typical approach for sterilizing equipment in place for pharmaceutical manufacturing. Similar to CIP\, failure to execute properly can lead to serious product quality issues. This case study reviews issues with steaming equipment to maintain sterility. The root cause\, tools\, approach and resolution will be discussed for both the CIP and SIP case studies. \n\nPlease register early as seats are limited and complimentary. DESCRIPTION:You are invited to join AMCHAM for an engaging conversation with Blood & Silk’s author\, Michael Vatikiotis\, on Tuesday\, November 28\, 2017 from 3:00 pm to 5:00 pm at TR Fire Grill\, next to TGI Fridays at Level 6\, Pavilion Kuala Lumpur. \n· How will the deepening religious divisions in Indonesia and Malaysia affect the world?\n· What is China’s growing influence in the region?\n· Why do Myanmar\, Thailand and the Philippines harbor unresolved violent insurgencies? \n‘The gun is never far removed from the political arena in Southeast Asia\,’ writes Michael Vatikiotis in his part memoir and part political study of the dynamics of modern Southeast Asia\, a frontline of two of the most important global conflicts: the struggle between a declining West and a rising China\, and that between religious tolerance and extremism. \nSoutheast Asia accounts for sizeable chunks of global investment and manufacturing capacity; it straddles essential lines of trade and communication. Whether it is mobile phone parts or clothing and accessories\, Southeast Asia is a vital link in the global supply chain. Yet peering beyond brand new shopping malls and the shiny glass towers of Bangkok and Jakarta\, Blood and Silk highlights why it is one of the most perennially unstable regions of the world and reveals the true struggle of people’s lives\, the brinkmanship played by its leaders\, vivid portraits of the personalities who pull the strings and the many issues that have a global impact from the Islamic jihadist groups of Central Java to the right-wing Buddhist nationalists of Rakhine State in Myanmar. \nFrom negotiating with deadly Thai Muslim insurgents\, mediating between warring clans in the Southern Philippines to consoling the victims of political violence in Indonesia\, Michael has first-hand\, hair-raising experience of the endemic violence in these countries and interweaves this into the narrative of this many-layered portrait of the region. \nPlease contact Ms Elyna Ngu at elyna@amcham.com.my for more information.

SUMMARY:EIS Briefing by Dato' Mohd Sahar\, Chief EIS Officer at MoHR
DESCRIPTION:AMCHAM is pleased to invite you to attend a roundtable discussion focusing on the recent bill providing for an Employee Insurance Scheme (EIS) on Tuesday\, 21 November 2017 at 10.00 a.m. We are delighted to have received confirmation that Dato’ Mohd Sahar Darusman\, Chief EIS Officer will be joining us for this very important discussion. \nThe EIS bill was approved by the Dewan Rakyat on 26 October 2017 and has been designed to provide additional financial security\, careers counseling\, and retraining for Malaysian workers that lose their jobs due to retrenchment. Contributions of 0.2% of monthly salaries will be required from both employers and employees. To our understanding\, the existing Employment Termination Layoff Benefit regulations and mandatory Human Resources Development Fund contributions from employers will be unaffected by this new program. \nThis roundtable discussion offers CEOs\, Finance Directors\, and Human Resources Managers the opportunity to access detailed information about the legislation and its implementation\, to have your questions answered directly by the people designated to manage the implementation of the scheme from January 2018\, to offer any feedback or suggestions before the bill is taken to Dewan Negara in early December. \nTo ensure the size of the program can deliver a robust conversation\, seating is limited to AMCHAM Members only and will be allocated on a first-come-first-serve basis. We expect a lot of interest in this event and recommend your early registration. \nPLEASE NOTE: To make this a more productive session\, if you have questions to submit ahead of the program please send these to gr@amcham.com.my \nIf you cannot attend but would like to send a representative\, please contact Elyna at elyna@amcham.com.my
