SUMMARY:U.S. Trade Engagement on U.S./Russia Sanctions [VIRTUAL]
DESCRIPTION:In response to Russia’s invasion of Ukraine\, countries all over the world began to impose fresh sanctions against Russia including the U.S. and Singapore. The restrictions consist of two parts: (1) significant financial sanctions on a range of Russian financial institutions and individuals\, and (2) far-reaching export controls imposing stringent license requirements and licensing policies\, and limited license exception availability\, for exports of a wide range of items to Russia. \nAmidst the new and ever-changing sanction announcements\, it is important to understand these commercial and financial penalties and its implications for businesses. Especially as key parts of the sanctions\, like the new foreign direct product rules\, can affect everyday operations for businesses moving forward. \nAmCham Singapore and AmCham Malaysia are delighted to partner with the U.S. Department of Commerce to host a briefing on the recently imposed sanctions against Russia\, including how these sanctions may impact businesses operating in the region. \nFor all inquiries\, please contact us at events@amcham.com.my

SUMMARY:Government Relations Workshop
DESCRIPTION:AMCHAM played a particularly crucial role in advocacy during the last two years of the COVID-19 pandemic\, which saw an unprecedented need for companies to not only communicate to the Government issues being faced on the ground\, but also to obtain clarification from the government on the evolving regulations and Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs). \nMoving into 2022\, AMCHAM is seeking proactive methods of advocacy. In doing so\, the Chamber will rely on its members to identify important regulatory issues that impact operations and foreign direct investments in Malaysia. Proactive advocacy will also involve the development of white papers to share with Government officials on the types of policies that can further help grow Malaysia’s economy and foreign investment opportunities. \nJoin this half-day workshop which aims to draw upon the experience and expertise of members holding Government Relations and Public Affairs roles within their companies in identifying challenges faced in government policy and regulations\, and to craft the Chamber’s position on pertinent issues. This will help to ensure consistency and synchronization of its messaging to members’ and US corporate lines. \nEVENT DETAILS \nDate: 30 Nov 2021 \nTime: 2:00pm – 5:00pm \nVenue: InterContinental Hotel\, Kuala Lumpur \nREGISTRATION INFORMATION: IMPORTANT NOTE: COVID-19 OBSERVANCES \nAs everyone’s health and safety remains our main priority\, we will continue to observe and adhere to prevalent SOPs for events. \nRegistration is mandatory for all participants in order for sufficient and safe physical distancing to be maintained. \nAll guests are required to update your individual profile accurately and present your MySejahtera status upon registration on the day of the event. \nPlease note late registrations/walk-ins will not be admitted. Individual ticket registrations will be closed 48 hours prior to the event date – please confirm your participation by end of day Friday\, 26 November 2021 at the latest.

SUMMARY:Back to Business: An Update on Travel for Asia-Pacific
DESCRIPTION:As countries worldwide prepare to re-open their economies\, international travel is poised to resume. However\, in the absence of globally accepted vaccine regulations and passports\, would-be travelers need to navigate a complex and rapidly changing patchwork of vaccine\, testing and quarantine requirements\, specific to each destination. At the same time\, tourism industry players face the challenge of restarting in a vastly changed operational environment. \nJoin the AmChams of the Asia Pacific (AAP) for a regional conference on the immediate issues facing international travel. Our three distinguished speakers include: \n\nAlfredo Montufar Helu\, The Economist Intelligence Corporate Network\, Beijing will present EIU’s latest vaccination rollout forecasts\, and talk about the economic\, political and geopolitical implications from growing vaccine inequity across the world.\nVinoop Goel\, International Air Transport Association (IATA). Covid-19 has had an unprecedented and devastating impact on aviation. IATA will provide an overview of the current state of the airline industry along with an short to longer term outlook. This session will also cover some of the steps taken to restart the industry and key priorities for governments and aviation stakeholders to ensure a recovery to pre-Covid-19 levels.\nAdh T. Stevens\, Second Secretary and Consul\, U. S. Embassy Beijing – Up to date information on travel to the USA.\n\nBreakout Discussions. After the plenary presentations\, participants will be invited to join destination-specific breakout sessions\, where there will be the opportunity for networking and interactive discussion about country-specific information. Each breakout session will be led by an AmCham Executive Director and a leading expert in the travel field. Destination rooms include: \n\nAmCham China\nAmCham Guam\nAmCham Japan\nAmCham Malaysia\nAmCham Myanmar\nAmCham Taiwan\nAMCHAM Thailand\nAmCham Vietnam\n\n
