SUMMARY:U.S.-Malaysia Clean Tech Forum 2023
DESCRIPTION:“To remain relevant and competitive\, manufacturers need to act fast to keep pace with rapid technological change in their industries.” \n– McKinsey Global Institute \nAs the ASEAN region experiences record growth\, governments face the challenges of attaining sustainable and responsible expansion. Malaysia has emerged with one of the strongest local ecosystems in the region\, positioning it well to lead in green transition initiatives. \nBased on 2019 figures from the U.S. Energy Information Administration\, approximate energy resources consumed in Malaysia are as follows: petroleum 37%\, natural gas 36%\, coal 21%\, and renewables 6%. \nThis Clean Tech Forum provides a platform for U.S. and Malaysian companies\, government agencies\, and organizations to explore the role that new technology and innovation\, existing initiatives\, and government policy can have in supporting greenhouse gas (GHG) emission reduction goals. \nThese steps can enhance Malaysia’s attractiveness for inbound investment\, strengthen supply chains\, increase trade\, and inform next steps for reaching net zero targets\, including through the Indo-Pacific Economic Framework (IPEF).

SUMMARY:[KL] Export Administration Regulations & Implications for Malaysian Operations
DESCRIPTION:SPECIAL SESSION \nExport Administration Regulations & Implications for Malaysian Operations \nJoin AMCHAM on Thursday\, 19 January 2023 from 10.30 AM – 12.00 PM for an IN-PERSON discussion and update on new U.S. export controls targeting China’s advanced semiconductor and supercomputer capabilities with Nathan Bush of DLA Piper who will share his insights and participate in a Q&A session. \nOn October 7\, 2022\, the Department of Commerce’s Bureau of Industry and Security (BIS) released an interim final rule (Interim Final Rule) that implements several new export controls to restrict the People’s Republic of China’s (PRC) ability to obtain certain advanced computing\, semiconductor and related manufacturing items from the United States and overseas sources that rely on US technology. The public comment period ended on 12 December 2022. \nAs with many U.S. export control measures\, the ramifications of the new rules depend heavily on the precise classification of specific items (including goods\, software\, and technology) under the EAR. Although the scope of the new rules aims to focus precisely on a relatively “narrow” range of very advanced supercomputer and IC products and technology\, the new requirements with respect to the global semiconductor industry are remarkably “deep” and far-reaching. \nOperators of facilities in Malaysia would be particularly concerned because sweeping new changes to the Export Administration Regulations (EAR) apply both to US-origin items and items developed or produced outside the United States that are the “direct product” of US technology\, software\, plant\, or manufacturing equipment. \nNathan Bush has been following these regulations and will be on hand to address your questions and help add clarity to what is a complex issue. \nEvent Details: \nDate: 19 Jan 2023 (Thursday) \nTime: 10.30 am – 12.00 pm \nVenue: AMCHAM OFFICE\, Level 10\, Bagunan Faber Imperial Court \nRSVP: Please book your seat early; seats will be allocated on a first-come\, first-served basis. \nFor more information\, please email the AMCHAM Events team at events@amcham.com.my

SUMMARY:[Penang] Export Administration Regulations & Implications for Malaysian Operations
DESCRIPTION:SPECIAL SESSION \nExport Administration Regulations & Implications for Malaysian Operations \nJoin AMCHAM on Tuesday\, 17 January 2023 from 1.30 PM – 2.45 PM for an IN-PERSON discussion and update on new U.S. export controls targeting China’s advanced semiconductor and supercomputer capabilities with Nathan Bush of DLA Piper who will share his insights and participate in a Q&A session. \nEvent Details: \nDate: 17 Jan 2023 (Tuesday) \nTime: 1.30 pm – 2.45 pm \nVenue: Prestige Hotel\, Penang \nRSVP: Please book your seat early; seats will be allocated on a first-come\, first-served basis. \nPlease note that this session will be followed by the Roundtable with the Semiconductor Industry Association (SIA) & Cocktail Reception – please RSVP for that separately. \nFor more information\, please email the AMCHAM Events team at events@amcham.com.my
