SUMMARY:Electric & Electronic Outlook: The heartbeat of the Malaysian export economy
DESCRIPTION:The American Malaysian Chamber of Commerce (AMCHAM) in collaboration with the Malaysian-German Chamber (MGCC) is organizing panel discussion on the Electric & Electronic (E&E) Industry Outlook. This event is set to shed light on the E&E sector’s pivotal role in propelling Malaysia towards a prosperous future as a high-income\, high-tech nation. \nEvent Details: \n\nDate: Wednesday\, 6 September 2023\nTime: 10:00 am – 12:00 pm\nLocation: Colony @ KL Eco City\, Level 19\, Boutique Office 1\, Menara 2 (Pillar 11)\nTicket Price: RM150 Member and Member Company\, RM200 Non-Member\n\nThe E&E sector has been instrumental in driving Malaysia’s export driven growth model. To enhance the value of this sector\, Malaysia is now prioritizing activities in the front-end value chain\, such as design and chip fabrication. However\, compared to other advanced Asian countries\, Malaysia needs to improve in high skilled talent and research and development (R&D). \nIn this outlook event\, our distinguished panel members will discuss Malaysia’s current development in this industry and the capabilities present for the country to remain a relevant investment destination. \nFor all inquiries\, please contact us at events@amcham.com.my.

SUMMARY:Malaysia: Why is the Malaysian Ringgit at a near 30-year low?
DESCRIPTION:A year ago\, the drop in the value of the Malaysian Ringgit was attributed to “external factors\,” some looked forward to the opportunities\, including the hope that the tourism sector would boost economic recovery and contribute to increased exports and the recovery of foreign direct investments. However\, 12 months later\, the currency is depreciating once more; what are the real fundamentals that are causing this decline\, and can it be attributed solely to external factors or other factors closer to home? \nYou are invited to a special session with visiting macro-economist and former AMCHAM member Dr. Don Hanna on the topic of Malaysia: Why is the Malaysian Ringgit at a near 30-year low? Join us at the AMCHAM Executive Office on Friday\, 16 June 2023\, from 2:30 – 4:00 PM. \nDon currently teaches macroeconomics to undergraduate and MBA students at the University of California\, Berkeley\, Haas School of Business\, where he has also designed and teaches a course on assessing country risk. \nBefore returning to the U.S.\, Don was the group chief economist at CIMB Group Holdings Berhad based in Hong Kong and then Kuala Lumpur. He has a background as a macroeconomic & market analyst with extensive experience advising financial institutions\, corporations\, and investors on events and outlooks in advanced and emerging markets\, particularly in Asia. Additionally\, he has experience in buy-side and sell-side financial institutions\, international agencies\, and academia.
