Sanjeev Nanavati is a senior advisor to the Asian banking practice of the largest and most prestigious management-consulting firm and currently involved in bank transformations in The Philippines, Indonesia, Thailand, Taiwan and China. He is also a senior advisor to one of the Big 4 accounting firms, where he is coaching and advising partners on transforming their personal performance and has achieved measurable results within a short period of time.

Sanjeev is a contributor on management issues in the op-ed column of the Business Times, Singapore and is the elected President of the American Malaysian Chamber of Commerce. He is a seasoned banker and business executive with over 25 years of extensive international experience. Previously, he was the longest serving CEO of Citibank Malaysia which is one of the largest markets for Citi worldwide. He was responsible for Citi's corporate and investment banking, transaction banking, treasury/markets, retail banking, wealth management, credit cards and off-shoring businesses which employed over 6,000 people.  He joined Citi in New York and worked in Hong Kong and Kuala Lumpur over a period of 13 years.

Sanjeev Nanavati has an MBA in Finance from the Whitman School of Business, Syracuse University in New York and a bachelor’s degree in Accounting from Delhi University in India.


Datuk Timothy Garland

Despite earning an Electrical Engineering degree from the University of Denver, and working for 10 years in the manufacturing systems business at Rockwell, Tim ultimately discovered that the advertising industry was a more adventurous and creative playground.

Datuk Timothy left Rockwell in 2001 to lead the manufacturing practice at Asia-based consulting startup Mercatela, where the seeds of MYALO, a digital strategy and communications startup, were sown.

In 2006, after three years of building MYALO he sold it to TBWA where he was COO from 2006-2010.  In 2010, Tim shifted gears and built an ASEAN-centric capital market practice for TBWA to develop brand strategies and guide brand behavior for numerous ASEAN entities expanding their presence globally.

Well awarded for his brand, digital and public relations work, the digitization of “Malaysia, Truly Asia” for Tourism Malaysia was one of his most fun and awarded projects.

Datuk Timothy was also the President of AMCHAM from 2002-2005, during which time he was awarded a Datukship from His Majesty, The King of Malaysia, for actively developing US-Malaysia trade relationships.


Dato’ P’ng Soo Hong

Managing Director, First Solar Malaysia Sdn Bhd

Dato’ P’ng Soo Hong (P’ng) is the Vice President of Manufacturing Operations and Managing Director of First Solar Malaysia Sdn. Bhd. He oversees the company’s overall strategic direction and is responsible towards the company’s operations, EHS, Quality & Reliability, Human Resources, Finance, IT and Supply Chain performance.

P’ng joined First Solar in October 2008. Prior to First Solar, he was attached to Intel Corporation and had served the company for 17 years after graduating from university.

While at Intel, P’ng had the opportunity to lead several major functions, which include Operation Management, Manufacturing System/Process, and Supply Chain Management development. He was the General Manager for Intel’s largest Assembly-Test Chipset Operation in Chengdu, China, from 2004 to 2007. It was also the company which he helped start-up. After his assignment there, he was relocated to Intel’s 300mm Fab at Arizona.

P’ng currently is the Chairman of Malaysian Alternative & Renewable Industry (MARI), the President of Kulim Industrial Tenants Association (KITA), the Board of Governor of American Malaysian Chamber of Commerce (AMCHAM), the Director of Junior Achievement (JA) Malaysia, the Board of Director of Malaysian Industry-Government Group for High Technology (MiGHT), the Board of Director of Penang State Sports Council, and the Vice President of Penang Volleyball Association.


Ramzi Toubassy


Ramzi Toubassy, aged 48 was appointed to the Board of Governors on 1St September, 2015. As a Board Member, Ramzi has been working closely with fellow members of the Board in redrafting the constitution of the American Chamber of Commerce and is committed to ensuring that proper governance remains pertinent to the Board.  Since his appointment in September 2015, Ramzi is active in promoting and increasing the membership count for the American Chamber of Commerce.

As an insurance industry expert, Ramzi is a prominent personality in Malaysia and other parts of Asia. On 19 September 2014, Ramzi was appointed as Chief Executive Officer for AmMetLife Insurance Berhad. As Chief Executive Officer, Ramzi is responsible for executing a transformation strategy to achieve profitable growth, accelerate shareholder return, as well as ensuring the operational effectiveness of the AmMetLife business in Malaysia.

Ramzi joined MetLife Inc in 2012, and previously served as its Head of Face-to-Face Distribution for the Europe, Middle East and Africa (EMEA) region. Prior to joining MetLife, he was with AIA, where over a period of eight years, he held several key management roles including Deputy Chief Agency Officer for Southeast Asia based in Hong Kong, Chief Distribution Officer in Malaysia, Korea and Vietnam. Having started his career at AIG in 1996, Ramzi has accumulated over 20 years of experience in the insurance industry.

Ramzi holds a Bachelor of Arts in Political Science as well as a Master of Arts in International Relations from Georgia State University, USA.

Janet Yap
Country Managing Director – Malaysia,


Janet Yap was appointed Country Managing Director in May 2014, making her the first woman to helm this post in Accenture Malaysia. She is also the Accenture Technology Lead and has very recently relinquished her post as Inclusion & Diversity (I&D) Lead which she held for the last four years in Malaysia.

Janet has built her 26 year career in Technology that span across various industries such as Consumer Goods & Services, Telecommunications & Media, Travel &Transportation, Utilities and Oil & Gas.

In 1995, Janet relocated to Accenture China (Hong Kong office), where she led the Enterprise Business Solutions group covering Greater China. Six years later, she moved to Singapore to work with clients in Oil & Gas and Utilities.

Janet returned to Kuala Lumpur in 2003 to establish the Accenture Technology Solutions group, which has now been reorganized as Accenture Technology and is the largest workforce in Accenture Malaysia.

She is passionate about women-related causes and is actively involved as a mentor for the ICAEW’s Women in Leadership 2015 program and a member of the steering committee for The 30% Club, Malaysian chapter.

Chin Keat Chyuan

With over 19 years of experience in the Healthcare Sector, Chin Keat Chyuan is an inspirational and progressive leader, who nurtures and empowers his teams to deliver unprecedented top line and bottom line results.

Being a true Johnsonian, Chin started his career with Johnson & Johnson in 1997 as a Product Specialist in Medical Devices, graduating with 1st class honors in Biochemistry from the National University of Malaysia. Today, Chin holds an MBA with Merit from the Nottingham University Business School.

His lustrous career includes being the Medical Devices & Diagnostics (MD&D) Malaysia Country Director and the Ethicon Endo Surgery (EES) Franchise Director for ASEAN in 2010, as well as, being the General Manager for Ethicon ASEAN. He held the position of Country Director for Hospital Channel, Malaysia in July 2014 under the ONE J&J business model before being promoted to his current leadership position as the Managing Director for ONE J&J Malaysia in November 2015.

Chin has received multiple recognitions on his business leadership and has been accredited for the exponential regional growth for Ethicon during his leadership; and for building a strong business foundation and forging successful strategic partnerships with targeted customers under the current ONE J&J business model.

Steven R. Clayton
Senior Country Officer

Steve Clayton is Senior Country Officer and CEO/Managing Director of J.P. Morgan Chase Malaysia Bhd. He is a veteran in investment banking, spending the bulk of his 37-year career in senior positions with major global financial services firms.

He currently oversees all corporate and investment banking activities for the Malaysia franchise including those regulated under JPM Securities. Prior to J.P. Morgan, Steve spent 8 years at Barclays Capital Malaysia as Managing Director and CEO, responsible for building the investment banking and sales & distribution business in the market. He also held key roles at Nomura in Malaysia and CLSA in Hong Kong, where he led and closed transformational deals in both markets.

Steve has been an active participant and contributor to many of the Amcham’s events over the past few years. His expertise in the banking world coupled with his 20 years of residency in Malaysia offer the Chamber an experienced voice from the financial institution constituency.

Recent events arising from Bank Negara’s new foreign exchange regulations have shown the importance of member banks providing guidance and advice to the Chamber while also making a major contribution to lobbying efforts. His inclusion as a Governor of the Board offers strong representation for the U.S. banking community.

Steve was educated at a military school in Hong Kong and went onto tertiary education in England in 1976 before returning to Hong Kong for full time employment in 1980. He is proud to say that all his working life has been spent in Asia.
