This first quarter of 2017 has been exceptionally busy one. With new regulations from Bank Negara and in the 2016/17 budget, we had a flying start to the new year with a well attended dialogue with MITI Minister, Y.B Dato' Sri Mustapa Mohamed mid-January. Sixty members joined for what was a robust discussion on the key issues impacting the Members from Withholding Tax, GST, Foreign Exchange Administration Rules, IP Protection and Market Access. The Chamber presented these key messages from the American business community to MITI and its agencies MIDA, MATRADE and INVESTKL.
Mid February, AMCHAM took members’ concerns to The Honorable Dato’ Sri Mohd Najib Bin Tun Haji Abdul Razak, Prime Minister of Malaysia. AMCHAM is honored to have our first meeting with Dato’ Sri; we appreciate Dato’ Sri’s time in meeting and acknowledging our members’ concerns. Prior to the meeting with Dato’ Sri, a lot of work and time had been invested, by staff and members, to ensure we represented our membership with professionalism and integrity.
We are very grateful to the input of our members who were able to share their specialized knowledge for the benefit of others. We will continue to engage with you so that we can learn of your key concerns in your respective sectors and keep members abreast of further developments. We would like to to encourage members to become more active by sharing experiences within your industry on what is working and what can be improved.
On a separate note, following the meeting with InvestKL, MIDA, Immigration, Talent Corp on Immigration issues on 2nd August 2016, InvestKL together with the Director General of the Immigration Department of Malaysia, YBhg. Dato' Sri Hj. Mustafar Bin Hj. Ali invited AMCHAM to have a dialogue session on the progress of the issues.
